Running Water, Contd.
This picture of the canyons of Valles Marineris shows some of the evidence for running water. There are many huge ancient river channels which start at north and central canyons of Valles Marineris, and extend in the northward direction.
Evidence such as this for running water on Mars is plentiful. But this evidence suggests that the nature of flowing water on Mars is nothing like it's terrestrial analog. The evidence is in the form of:
- large, tear-dropped shaped outflow channels
- river valley networks unlike terrestrial river valleys
- catastrophic floods, with associated shorelines, & canyon sediments
